Education to members and the general public through monthly talks given by high calibre speakers on archaeological and historical subjects. Field trips and visits to archaeological sites and places of historical importance during the summer months. We also undertake archaeological and historical research, the results of which are published in our Transactions.
The Society takes an active interest in local affairs relating to natural history. It aims to further the study and conservation of the flora and fauna, particularly in South Essex, and to create an awareness of the importance of local wildlife.
South Fambridge is a village in Rochford District with an eventful history from Roman, Saxon, Danish, Norman, mediaeval and modern times, including early aviation.
Our committee manages events in South Hanningfield hall and organise the annual Village Show.
Our centres of population are Stanford Rivers and Toot Hill, all within a very rural part of Essex. The Council meets every two months at the Toot Hill village Hall, normally at 1950 on the 2nd Thursday of "odd" months. All are welcome.
