Celebrating 400 years of the King James Version

  

2011 is the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Version of the Bible.

In 2010 a motion was presented to General Synod, the C of E's parliament, on behalf of Chelmsford Diocese, calling on the Synod to express its confidence in the Bible and to encourage the church to use 2011 to promote Bible literacy within the church and society as a whole. After friendly amendment the Synod passed the motion wholeheartedly. For more information go to:

There will lots of events to mark this important anniversary this year not least in the Deanery of Dunmow & Stansted. Between 1st and 17th July St Mary's Great Dunmow will host a Bible Exhibition in their historic parish Church, together with a range of Special Evenings, to celebrate 400 years of the King James Bible and the continuing work to make the Bible available in the languages of the people.
