Skateboard Strip

WRITTLE PARISH COUNCIL WAS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE IN JUNE 2005 THE OPENING OF A SKATEBOARD STRIP AT PARADISE ROAD PLAYING FIELDS.

Monies had been acquired over a period of 4years for youth purposes and the idea of skateboard/BMX facilities came after a team of young people led by Robbie White and Tom Davies won an award of £1,700 from the Essex Youth Service.  Other monies came as a result of the Village Millennium and Jubilee celebrations and generous donations from Maztec (organisers of the V Concerts at Hylands Park).  Finally, the Parish Council contributed the remainder.

The actual design which comprises a start platform, funbox with slide and curb and a quarter pipe was achieved by a team of local skateboarders led by Jonathan Bell, including Matthew Lloyd, Robert Ford and Tom Rayment.

The new facility has been installed after consultation with Paradise Road residents and is sited with the agreement of CBC Environment Officers to minimise noise levels.  The facility has proved immensely popular since being open and obviously provides a much needed outlet for the youth of the village.
