Church Meadow was purchased by Great Bromley Parish Council in 2000 to ensure that it continued as an important amenity to the Church, St George’s School, the Cheshire Home and the village in general.  It has been used as an informal car park for a number of years but the area allocated to this purpose has increased since parish council ownership and the surface overlaid in part with loose road planings.  The meadow has a small recycling centre for glass and paper, controlled by Tendring District Council.

Following the 2006 village appraisal a working group was set up in mid 2007 to take forward enhancements to Church Meadow, partly in response to residents’ views.  Following extensive consultations, including with the church and school, the working party came up with proposals which provide the optimum number of car parking spaces (43)  whilst retaining a separate grassed area for other uses.

The new layout for safer car parking was introduced in January 2009 and guidance on its use is here.

Please note that in extenuating circumstances parking can be extended by prior arrangement onto the grass area. However such requests cannot be entertained during winter months or during inclement weather due to the potential for long term damage.
