During June and July 2006 a survey was undertaken of residents’ views of a number of aspects of village life.  The cost of the survey was met jointly by the parish council and the Essex Rural Community Council.

There was a good response to the survey by both adults and children with 44% of households returning completed questionnaires.  The results of the survey were published in a comprehensive report which was distributed widely both within and outside the village.  The survey showed that residents were generally positive about life in the village and the services available to them.

One outcome of the survey has been the establishment of an action plan for community development.  This has been endorsed by the council and will be implemented over time through a number of village working parties.  This work will hopefully lead to the drawing-up of a comprehensive village plan but until such a time as the implications of the proposed 'localism' legislation become clear the parish council does not intend to develop such a  plan at this time.  Details of the working parties can be found in the parish magazine here.
