Code of Conduct and Members' Interests

Under the Localism Act the Council is required to adopt a code of conduct consistent with the Nolan principles of conduct in public life.

These are:

  1. Selflessness
  2. Integrity
  3. Objectivity
  4. Accountability
  5. Openness
  6. Honesty
  7. Leadership

At its meeting on 21 June 2012 the Council resolved to adopt the Code drafted by Uttlesford District Council from 1 July. This code encompasses the Nolan principles and the new legal requirements for the declaration of members' interests.

A further change is that complaints against councillors are no longer made to the Standards Board for England and Wales but to Uttlesford District Council.

Hadstock Parish Council's Code of Conduct is available to download as a pdf document.

Members' Interests

The Localism Act now makes it a criminal offence for councillors not to declare their interests as required by law. It is also a statutory requirement for these to be published.

Members have each completed a declaration of interest and these can be viewed and downloaded on the Uttlesford District Council website http://gis.uttlesford.gov.uk/cmis5/RegisterofInterests.aspx.
