When do you eat cheese?

Our friends from France seem to prefer to eat cheese during a meal between courses. We Brits, on the other hand, tend to favour having our cheese after the desert course.

This is just one of the cultural differences between the French and the English.

Learning about each other’s cultures is just one of the benefits of belonging to a twinning association.  More important, however, is making friends with families from across the English Channel.

Every other year, members of Panfield Twinning Association travel to the small French community of St.Symphorien-le-Chateau for a long weekend where we always receive an extremely warm welcome.  Visits and social events are laid on for us by our host families and we have a lot of fun.

Twinning is for all ages. You also don’t have to be proficient at speaking French – a few words and a phrase book work wonders. It is totally informal – not linked with the Council in anyway.

Can any family in or around Panfield please play host to some guests from France next Easter?

It is good fun – really! Most of us have but a mere smattering of French but we always seem to get by so a lack of knowledge of the language is no barrier. Families taking French guests next Easter will, of course, be invited back for a reciprocal visit the following year. If you would like to think about this, please phone Sheila on 01376 326470 or Peter on 01376 324765 for an informal chat about what is involved.

Social events.

All our social fund-raising events are open to everyone so we were delighted to see friends from the Community Association and elsewhere at our “Bangers and Beetles” evening on 6th October.  We followed this by a Bonfire Bonanza – a three course dinner with live entertainment – which took place on 4th November.  This was  extremely successful and sincere thanks are due to Janet Brown and Sheila Leach for devising an exotic themed menu and preparing the food for the 35 people who came along to this candle-lit occasion.
