CHANGES TO THE REFUSE AND RECYCLING SERVICE WITH EFFECT FROM 2ND APRIL 2012
Refuse collection
Refuse and recycling collection will be every Friday morning with effect from week commencing 2nd April 2012.
Black Box Recycling
What to recycle
Newpapers/magazines
Junk Mail/writing & copier paper
Small packets and boxes that fit inside the box (please flatten)
Telephone Directories
Soft back brochures or books
What not to recycle
Wallpaper
Hard-backed catalogues or books
Foil-backed paper
Used nappies/tissues/kitchen roll,
Tetra Pack cartons (plastic backed cardboard)
Large cardboard boxes.
Blue Box Recycling
What to recycle
Bottles (for example: perfume, wine, beer, vinegar)
Jars (for example: baby food, make up, cooking sauce, herbs and spices)
What not to recycle
Drinking glasses
Picture or window glass
Mirrors, light bulbs and fluorescent tubes
Broken glass
*Please ensure that all glass containers are rinsed out.*
*Wrap broken glass securely and put in your black refuse sack and highlight that the sack contains broken glass.*
Green Bags
What to recycle
Squashed plastic bottles/detergent bottles
Bottle top lids (separated from bottles)
Margarine tubs, ice cream containers, yoghurt pots
Plastic ready meal and food trays
Confectionery trays/inserts
Fruit and vegetable punnets
Clean food tins and drink cans
Clean foil and empty aerosols
What not to recycle
Plastic bags and cups
Clingfilm
Plastic film from ready meals or produce packaging
Flower pots/bedding trays
Polystyrene of any kind
Bubble wrap
Hard plastic such as video or cd cases
Food residue
Tetra Pak Cartons (plastic backed cardboard)
*Please ensure that all packaging is clean and free from any food traces.*
*The Contractors are unable to pick up any contaminated, dirty or non-recyclable plastic. Contamination could cause lorry loads to be rejected by the recycling processor and sent to the landfill site..*

Raw and cooked meat and fish including bones

Bread, cake and pastries
Uneaten food from your plate
Egg shells, teabags and ground coffee
What not to recycle
Plastic bags including biodegradable carrier bags
Packaging of any sort
Liquids, oil or liquid fat
Pet food, bedding, faeces or carcasses
Garden Waste
*A roll of complimentary compostable liners has been provided to get you started. Line the smaller internal caddy with a t liner or one sheet of newspaper. You can get more 7 liners from some supermarkets and online but please ensure that they are compostable and have the seedling logo or EN13432..*
*Transfer your food waste into the large caddy on a regular basis.*
*Ensure the caddy is securely shut to avoid disturbance by animals.*
*Caddies are dishwasher safe and can be washed in warm soapy water.*
Recycling Centre for Household Waste
The nearest recycling centre is Located in Park Drive, Maldon. Please check the Essex County Council website for opening times.
